Please provide a brief description of your work.
I love to bring characters into the world which have a distinct personality and whose faces reflect their inner feelings. According to the shown feelings I carefully choose them and put them next to other artists stickers, paste-ups, stencils or graffiti in order to react to them. Often I also interact with advertising posters or the surroundings. It’s great fun and only the interaction makes my art complete and satisfying.
Does being a female artist, or identifying as a female artist, influence your work, and if so, how?
I’ve brooded a long time over that question, but I really don’t know how to answer it properly. I am who I am and many things influence my work but I have no idea in which way my being female influences it.
What’s the best thing about being a female artist in the sticker world?
There are not so many female artists in the sticker world but I have met quite a few. And save for one or two exceptions I really liked them. I’ve met some wonderful women who are clever, funny and very kind. It’s maybe a certain type of women who do sticker art and who are happy to meet other female sticker artists and support each other. So the best thing is probably that we are not so many and therefore there seems to be a stronger sense of belonging together.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Yes, I’d like to thank the Danish artist TEJN with whom I came into contact in 2014 which set in motion a chain of events finally leading to me becoming StickermaidBerlin. He is not only a fantastic artist but also a lovely person. From him I have learned, that street art isn’t forever and there is no reason to make a fuss over stolen stickers… I usually really don’t… I am a good student.
Special thanks to Oliver Baudach, Hatch Kingdom, Berlin, Germany, for his work to organize the SHE SLAPS! Street Art Stickers by Women Artists from Around the World traveling exhibition.
