JR public art project in Kenya

From the Wooster Collective: JR Finishes His Most Ambitious Project Yet In The Slums In Kibera, Kenya Exciting news from our friend JR who emailed us just a few moments ago from Kibera, Kenya – on of the largest slums in all of Africa. Today, after more than a year of planning, 2000 square meters of rooftops have been covered with photos of the eyes and faces of the women of Kibera. The material used is water resistant so that the photo itself will protect the fragile houses in the heavy rain season. The train that passes on this line…

**Important Clarification

Just to clarify for the three people who read this blog, those were not my beads in the previous post.  I just ripped off that image from Google. As a side note, the ICA in Boston is doing a big Shepard Fairey show this spring, and I’m hoping to figure out a way to take an SLU field trip with some of the Gallery’s student ninjas for a guided tour of street art and a subsequent sticker liberation excursion, if we can find the $$.  Stay tuned.

Amsterdam and Berlin stickers

Our super-duper sticker ninja, Kevin Carvill ’11, brought in the Euro-booteh today.  Stickerkitty will need to spend some time with this new collection of ~300 stickers!!!!  Many of the Amsterdam stickers were in English, which I didn’t expect.  Pix to follow soon….

Sorry

Stickerkitty has been slacking off during the holidays and/or working on some other projects.  Thanks to Chris Watts at SLU’s NCAT, I learned how to create my name via a binary code of zeros and ones. I will need to spend some time with this information. PS–I’m not sure how to understand this sequence: 0101001101110100011010010110001101101011011001010111001001101011011010010111010001110100011110010010011000100011001101100011010100110101001100110011001100111011

eBay Obama stickers

I’ve spent the last couple of days on eBay buying Obama stickers (the ones designed by Shepard Fairey)-the HOPE stickers, plus the “Yes We Did” stickers.  Apparently there is an Obama sticker that says PROGRESS that is difficult to find/acquire.  There is a bit of Obama-mania regarding Obama ephemera.  I saw a Web site today with Obama on every magazine cover that one could imagine, which would be a very cool exhibition–all of the posters, stickers, magazine covers, etc. Oh, and Eric Nakamura wrote a story on street art during the 2008 campaigns in Giant Robot.  Can’t wait to pick…

Yes We Did.

I’ve been picking up Obama stickers and ephemera lately.  Love the new YES WE DID sticker from Shepard Fairey, which oddly enough, I can’t find anywhere on Google images.  Weird.  They’re all over eBay.
